SBC Church

Strategy

Opportunity

Ssenge Baptist Church wanted to translate its ministry and vision into a physical campus that could serve its congregation today while supporting its future growth. IDD worked closely with the church’s congregation, staff, and leadership, experiencing the church’s worship and fellowship firsthand and using those conversations to understand its history, identity, and needs.

Response

The masterplan places the worship center at the heart of the campus, making it the largest and most prominent building and the center of ministry activity.

A main pedestrian spine connects the campus from the entrance to the central courtyard, with a preserved grove transformed into a landscaped garden and outdoor baptismal pool. Inspired by the “river of life,” the spine incorporates shaded seating and butterfly roofs that collect rainwater.

Most buildings are oriented east-west, with openings toward the north and south to connect them to the pedestrian route and courtyards. Supporting the worship center are pastoral offices and toilets, along with a flexible multi-purpose space for children’s ministry, training, conferences, and holiday clubs.

Sustainability

The design integrates passive and water-sensitive strategies into the campus. The east-west orientation helps reduce direct solar exposure while allowing openings toward the north and south to support natural ventilation.

Butterfly roofs along the main circulation spine collect rainwater, while the preserved grove and landscaped areas provide shade and help create a cooler, more comfortable campus environment.

Impact

The masterplan transforms Ssenge Baptist’s vision into a connected campus centered around worship, community, and shared ministry.

More than a collection of buildings, the campus creates a physical expression of the church’s identity—with the “river of life” connecting people and spaces and the worship center serving as the heart of the community.
