Opportunity

IDD was growing, and with it came a simple but important need: more room for its people to work, meet, connect, and become part of something bigger. The existing office could no longer support the expanding team or the way they worked together.

The new workplace needed to do more than fit additional desks. It needed to feel welcoming from the moment someone arrived, giving clients a place to pause and discover IDD’s work, while giving the team spaces to focus, exchange ideas, have quick conversations, or simply step away and breathe.

Natural light and green plants became opportunities to bring a sense of openness and ease into the everyday workday. The goal was to create a workplace that felt energetic and creative but also comfortable enough to feel like a place people belonged.

Response

IDD transformed an existing apartment into a contemporary workplace shaped around how people work and connect each day. The main workspace is organized into four islands with cross-shaped partitions, allowing the growing team to work together while maintaining visual connections. Desks make the most of natural daylight and airflow, creating a more open and comfortable environment.

Smaller rooms provide space for department meetings, while informal meeting areas encourage collaboration and exchange. A dedicated materials display also brings clients into the design process, giving them the opportunity to see, touch, and experience the materials behind IDD’s work.

Sustainability

Sustainability here is about creating a healthier, more comfortable workplace while making the most of what already exists. Reusing furniture and partitions gives familiar elements a new life, while natural daylight and cross-ventilation create a brighter, more comfortable environment for the people who use the office every day.

Impact

For IDD, the new workplace reflects the culture behind the work—a growing, youthful, and creative community where people and ideas are given space to develop. For those who visit, it offers a glimpse into that community and into the care IDD brings to every detail, from the first welcome to the materials and ideas that eventually become places of their own.
