Soddo Christian Hospital Hope Center
Creating a place where women, children, and their families can find care, comfort, and hope.
Strategy
Opportunity
Soddo is home to more than 200,000 people, and Soddo Community Hospital serves patients from across the region and neighboring countries. As the need for healthcare continues to grow, the hospital needed a way to expand while making the experience of arriving at and moving through the campus easier for patients and families.
With a newly acquired plot of land, the hospital saw an opportunity to create a dedicated women’s and children’s center—a place designed around some of its most important patients and the families who accompany them.
Response
IDD developed the concept for the Hope Center, a new medical services building that brings women’s and children’s care together with spaces to support patients, families, and staff.
The plan also rethinks how the new center connects to the existing hospital. By relocating the main entrance to a quieter western alleyway between the two sites, the campus can create a more organized arrival experience, simplify security and triage, and help patients reach the right area of care more easily.
A proposed connection between the existing and new campuses further supports movement between the facilities, while the new center includes space for family amenities and outdoor gathering.
Sustainability
The Hope Center’s design responds to the local climate through passive design strategies. The main building is oriented east-west, with its larger facades facing north and south to help reduce solar heat gain while providing useful natural daylight for patient spaces.
The site plan also preserves open areas for wastewater management and outdoor spaces where patients and families can gather, balancing the needs of the medical facility with the wellbeing of its users.
Impact
The Hope Center offers Soddo Community Hospital a vision for expanding care without losing sight of the people at the center of it.
By bringing women’s and children’s services together, improving campus access, and creating more supportive spaces for families, the project aims to make healthcare feel more organized, accessible, and humane.
A place where arriving for care can feel less overwhelming—and where women, children, and their families can find not only treatment, but hope.
