House of Hope provides housing, education, and daily care for girls from underserved communities whose families are unable to access these opportunities in Upper Egypt.

Over time, the existing home had deteriorated significantly. Aging plumbing caused persistent leaks, unreliable electrical systems affected daily life, and extensive water damage threatened well-being of its residents. With the girls scheduled to return before the new school year, the renovation needed to be completed within a very limited timeframe.

Response

IDD partnered with House of Hope to transform the existing facility into a safe, functional, and welcoming home that better supports the needs of the girls.

The renovation addressed critical infrastructure issues, including plumbing, electrical systems, and water damage, while reimagining the interior spaces to create a brighter, more comfortable environment. Every design decision focused on improving daily life, ensuring the home could support learning, recreation, and a sense of belonging for the girls who live there.

Impact

More than improving the apartment, the renovation has changed how the girls experience their home. It has given them a greater sense of confidence, belonging, and self-worth. 

By addressing critical infrastructure issues and creating warm, welcoming living spaces, the space has transformed the girls’ daily experience. They often describe their home as feeling “like a hotel”—not because of luxury, but because for the first time they feel truly cared for. The thoughtful design, quality finishes, and attention to detail communicate that they are valued and worthy of a safe, beautiful place to live.
